The weapons used in ww1 influenced the many casualties with the use of modern tecnology. It increased the death toll and made the war one of the harshest and cruelest in American history and also in the history of the world.

Weapons used in ww1 were more accurate and could shoot farther. The main weapon used by British soldiers in the trenches was the bolt-action rifle. 15 rounds could be fired in a minute and a person 1,400 metres away could be killed. (The Great War). This is important because almost every soldier had a rifle. The use of Machine Guns during ww1 helped to dramatically escalate the number of casualties. This shows that the invention of the machine gun helped make the war more violent(world war 1).Tanks were used for the first time in the First World War at the Battle of the Somme. They were developed to cope with the conditions on the Western Front. The first tank was called 'Little Willie' and needed a crew of 3. Its maximum speed was 3mph and it could not cross trenches.(The Great War).Tanks were important weapons in ww1.

New styles of warfare, like the use of gas and heavy artillery, produced new kinds of horror and unprecedented levels of suffering and death. This is important because it shows the harshness of the war.Mustard gas was the most deadly weapon used. It was fired into the trenches in shells. It is colourless and takes 12 hours to take effect. Effects include: blistering skin, vomiting, sore eyes, internal and external bleeding(world war 1). Death can take up to 5 weeks. This is important because it caused many casualties and created a fear factor in the war. The German army were the first to use chlorine gas at the battle of Ypres in 1915. Chlorine gas causes a burning sensation in the throat and chest pains. Death is painful - you suffocate. This was useful because many people died because of this gas(The Great War).

The naval warfare created a new era of warfare. It was created to fire upon other naval ships and shoot down the enemy planes for cover(The Great War). This is important because it shows how much the navy was involved. The bombs from the new type of warfare were used to destroy main trenches. The trenches were main areas with no overhead cover because of this the bombs killed many people. The Zeppelin, also known as blimp, was an airship that was used during the early part of the war in bombing raids by the Germans. They carried machine guns and bombs. However, they were abandoned because they were easy to shoot out of the sky. This was one of the largest weapons in the war but it was removed.Planes were also used for the first time. At first they were used to deliver bombs and for spying work but became fighter aircraft armed with machine guns, bombs and some times cannons. Fights between two planes in the
sky became known as 'dogfights'(The Great War).

Weapons in ww1 were used in many ways to cause many fatalities. Because of the new technology the weapons increased in power and damage as well as in distance and accuracy. Many people died in ww1 because of the vast increase in technology and education
